Section 8 - MEDICATION GUIDELINES
8.18 PARALYTIC
Succinycholine
DESCRIPTION
- A skeletal muscle relaxant for intravenous (IV) administration indicated as an adjunct to general anesthesia, to facilitate tracheal intubation, and to provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation.
INDICATIONS
CONTRAINDICATIONS
- Do not administer to patients with Hx of HYPERKALEMIA, RHABDOMYOLYSIS, Severe Burns and Malignant hyperthermia. (i.e. peaked T waves, kidney insufficiency, renal failure, acidosis, crush injuries.)
DOSAGE
- 1.5 mg/kg intravenously (IV) for 1 dose
- Maintenance for Prolonged Procedures - 0.04-0.07 mg/kg intravenously (IV) every 5-10 minutes as needed
